Summer Skincare Routine ft. AlumierMD

Disclosure – Although this post is NOT sponsored by AlumierMD, I did receive free product. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

I am a huge advocate and believer in switching up skincare products, not only seasonally, but also when you feel your skin is craving something different – weather it is a more lightweight moisturizer, or adding in a hydrating serum, it’s always great to change things up once in a while! For reference, I have normal-dehydrated skin with a bit of congestion and mild acne rosacea – it sounds like a complicated skin type, but once I found what products & ingredients work for me, I was able to control my skin type. Of course there is more than just skincare involved – diet, exercise, and managing stress also play a role in healthy skin.

About 6 months ago I was doing online research on various skincare brands as I was looking for a new serum and I stumbled upon AlumierMD. I did my 3 usual checks – ingredients, packaging (will the ingredients remain stable?), and Company info. Everything aligned with the many skincare principles I believe in, and I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was because it’s so rare to find a brand that carries medical-grade skincare with exceptional ingredients at an affordable price. I reached out to the team at Alumier and asked to try out a range of products so that I can also share my opinions with you – Let’s just jump right into my current AlumierMD skincare routine!

Purifying Gel Cleanser – Combination Skin |Normal Skin |Oily Skin

IMG_3456 3I wanted to get out of my comfort zone (cream-based cleansers) and try out the Purifying Gel Cleanser as it is pH-balanced and at the moment, my skin isn’t as dry as it would be in the colder months. This gentle-foaming cleanser gets rid of makeup as well as excess oils and also contains ingredients such as chamomile and aloe to soothe skin. I always wait to see how my skin feels after I rinse & pat it dry; As this is a gel cleanser, I did notice my skin wasn’t as hydrated as it would be with a cream-based cleanser, however my skin didn’t feel tight, which is key. One thing I would advise is do not get this cleanser in your eyes because it’ll cause irritation.

Bright & Clear Solution – Combination Skin |Dry Skin |Normal Skin |Oily Skin

IMG_3455 3I usually use BHA-based chemical exfoliants which are good for individuals who are prone to bumps, clogged pores, blemishes, enlarged pores, and rosacea as it is gentle and reduces redness. The Bright & Clear Solution is AHA-based, comprised of Lactic acid, Lime Pearl™ and soy amino acids. This product not only exfoliates to remove dead skin cells, it also works to enhance natural moisturizing factors within the skin and reduce sun damage and wrinkles. What I found impressive about this formula is that AlumierMD included a nice blend of antioxidants, as well as soothing ingredients such as vitamin C, arnica and bisabolol. I highly recommend using this product every other day to start to build up tolerance, and then every night. My skin did flare up when I first started using this product, but after trial and error, gently patting the product in with a cotton pad, waiting 1 minute, then applying a serum and moisturizer is the way to go!

AHA Renewal Serum – Combination Skin |Dry Skin |Normal Skin |Oily Skin

IMG_3453 4The AHA Renewal Serum has easily become one of my holy grail skincare products. Why? This product has a mix of exfoliators and hydrators that promote brighter, firmer and more radiant skin, while encouraging quick cell turnover. I alternate this product with the Bright & Clear Solution and I love how my skin is looking at the moment! I use about 1-2 pumps twice a week after cleansing, wait for the product to sink in, then apply a light layer of moisturizer. When I wake up in the morning, it’s like my skin is transformed – it has a smoother texture, and I have noticed a slight reduction in hyperpigmentation after using this product for only 1 month. This serum contains beneficial ingredients such as arnica (soothing), green tea (antioxidant), vitamin B5 (hydrating), and sodium hyaluronate (hydrating).

Calm-R – Combination Skin |Dry Skin |Normal Skin |Oily Skin

IMG_3454 3This is first product that I ever tried from AlumierMD. As I mentioned earlier, I have mild acne rosacea and had been looking for a serum to help alleviate the symptoms of rosacea. I instantly fell in love with the lightweight texture of Calm-R and its ability to heal and soothe sensitivities. I once had a chemical peel with an AlumierMD aesthetician and this serum helped calm down any redness and irritation that the acids may have caused. Calm-R contains piperonyl glucose and sea whip, which are ingredients that help reduce redness, while hinokitiol contains antioxidant and calming properties. This is another holy grail product for me and I see myself using this serum for many years to come. If you have acne or rosacea, I highly recommend this product!

Ultimate Boost Serum – Combination Skin |Dry Skin |Normal Skin |Oily Skin

IMG_3457 3Ultimate Boost Serum is another lightweight serum worthy of trying as it is packed with antioxidants, peptides, hydrators, and calming ingredients. I love to either mix this with a moisturizer, or layer it under my moisturizer. This serum aims at strengthening skin’s barrier, improving elasticity, and reducing the appearance of wrinkles, and what I have noticed is a combination of the 3, although this may also be from using the other products mentioned above in conjunction. I also love using this under my eyes as an eye serum – it is super lightweight, and gentle enough for the eye area.

HydraLight – Combination Skin |Normal Skin |Oily Skin

IMG_3458 3I haven’t used a lightweight moisturizer in a very long time as I prefer thicker moisturizers for my skin type. However, after trying the HydraLight I am convinced that even a lighter moisturizer can provide adequate hydration. This isn’t your basic moisturizer either, it is packed with peptides to firm/strengthen skin, antioxidants to defend your skin against pollution and environmental damage, and soothing/hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe and niacinamide. It’s also the perfect consistency to use with mixing serums. I definitely see myself using this moisturizer year-round and will be purchasing another bottle as soon as I finish this one!

Sunscreens – Combination Skin |Dry Skin |Normal Skin |Oily Skin

IMG_3459 3I mention the importance of using SPF 30+ every single day regardless of weather as it is the ONLY product that can help prevent wrinkles. What I love about AlumierMD’s sunscreens is that they are all mineral-based, which is better and more gentle option for sensitive skin as the product sits on top of your skin while deflecting the sun’s harmful rays. Synthetic sunscreens get absorbed into the skin, which can cause irritation. I have tried four sunscreens from AlumierMD and my favourite of them all is the Sheer Hydration Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 40. Here is a breakdown of the SPF’s I tried –

Sheer Hydration Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 40: The formulation of this sunscreen just makes me so happy – It contains powerhouse antioxidants, including vitamin C, resveratrol, grape seed extract and glutathione. It has a silky texture and is easily blended into the skin.

Sheer Hydration Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 40 Versatile Tint: This SPF is essentially the same as the one mentioned above, except it has a tint. It is labeled as a versatile tint, however it was a bit too dark for me. For those looking for makeup to match your body’s tan or already have a tanned face (although I wouldn’t recommend tanning your face), look no further because this will work beautifully as not only your daily SPF, but also your makeup.

Moisture Matte Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 40 Ivory & Sand: The moisture matte SPF comes in 3 different shades (Ivory, Sand, and Amber). I tried both the Ivory and Sand shades and both are actually quite nice on my skin tone, but Ivory is the better match. This SPF has colour-encapsulated beads within the white cream, which takes slightly more time to blend in, but once blended, it leaves a nice matte finish with low-medium colour coverage. If you have dry skin, use a hydrating serum under this SPF.

Where to Buy AlumierMD

As AlumierMD’s products are medical grade/cosmeceutical, they are not sold in stores like Shopper’s Drug Mart, London Drugs, or Sephora. AlumierMD stock via specialist clinics – there are numerous clinics in Vancouver and across Canada that stock AlumierMD products. These skin care professionals can customize your AlumierMD regime so you don’t have to question which products are right for your skin type and waste money alongside doing so. I can reassure you that the team is extremely knowledgable and really cares for the health of your skin – they are there to help you with any skin concerns/insecurities you may have. For me, it was rosacea, and I can say without a doubt that AlumierMD’s products have made me feel for confident. I don’t even wear makeup on a daily basis – to me, that’s a huge win!
